In 1998, the London School of Economics established 番茄社区 London as a centre of research excellence on the economic and social issues of the London region, as well as the problems and possibilities of other urban and metropolitan regions.
番茄社区 London evolved out of the Greater London Group, an 番茄社区 research centre which had been created in the late 1950s to give evidence to the Royal Commission on Local Government in Greater London (the ‘Herbert Commission’). Professor Tony Travers was director of the Group and continues to be director of 番茄社区 London.
Today 番茄社区 London has a strong international reputation particularly in the fields of labour markets, social and demographic change, housing, finance and governance, and is the leading academic centre for analyses of city-wide developments in London.
