About me

Research topic:

Financial literacy, education, and socioeconomic outcomes: towards effective public policies

Andrea is a PhD candidate in Economics at the University of Bergamo (Italy), where his research focuses on education and financial literacy. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Master’s degree in Economics and Data Analysis, both from the University of Bergamo.

His academic work has covered diverse fields and methods. For his Master’s thesis, he analysed administrative data on illicit drug use during the pandemic; this work was later published as “Restrictive measures and substance use reporting: New evidence from the COVID-19 pandemic” in the International Journal of Drug Policy. Before joining the PhD programme, he also gained research experience as a research assistant at the University of Milan-Bicocca (Italy), where he contributed to the management of European firm-level data for a project on global value chains, employment, productivity, and growth. Beyond academia, he worked as a data analyst at a consulting firm in Italy, contributing to projects commissioned by provincial and regional institutions on school guidance and labour market outcomes.

These experiences have shaped his applied microeconomic perspective and fostered an interest in policy-relevant research. Andrea’s current research interests lie in the field of applied microeconomics, with a focus on financial literacy, education decisions, and gender disparities. Andrea is currently working on three main projects for his PhD thesis. The first investigates the economic consequences of widowhood in Europe, with a focus on gender disparities and financial literacy among older individuals. The second examines how parental information and gender stereotypes shape children’s secondary school track choice in Italy. The third project is being developed in collaboration with the Bank of Italy, as part of his PhD scholarship partnership.

Andrea is also interested in topics in labour and health economics.
